Matt Halvorson founded the Rise Up for Students blog in 2016 to advocate for equity in education in Seattle and elsewhere and to shed light on issues of racial and social injustice.

The project grew to include regular contributions from parents, students and education activists in the community. In its first five years, the blog amassed more than 120,000 pageviews from almost 90,000 unique visitors, and established itself as an authentic, impactful voice in the push for radical empathy and equity in our schools.

Matt has been quoted or featured in Seattle Magazine, Seattle’s Child magazine, Seattle Weekly, The Stranger, The Seattle Times, NorthWest Music Scene, and others as an extension of this work.
